Listeners fell in love with swing music during the early '30s, even as they continued their affection for big-band music. Swing differed mainly in that it focused strongly on improvisation, and it would remain massively popular for two decades. With roots in Dixieland and New Orleans jazz, swing attracted many artists who would later become legends, from Nat King Cole to Frank Sinatra.
