After trying his luck with the guitar-oriented rock of Cucharada—a band whose lack of means prevented them from getting where they undoubtedly deserved to go—Manolo Tena knew how to evolve towards a more sophisticated approach with Alarma, a trio formed with drummer José Manuel Díaz and the excellent guitarist Jaime Asúa. Seeking a balance between urban rock and new wave, Tena revealed himself as a huge composer capable of writing lyrics and melodies as tremendous “Tu Amor”, “Lola” and "Preparado para el Rock n’ Roll”. In spite of being recognised as essential songs in the history of Spanish rock, none of them achieved the much-desired commercial success that Tena would subsequently receive as a solo artist the following decade.
