Kohndo Essentials

Influential French hip-hop star Kohndo got his start as part of ‘90s crew La Cliqua before embarking on a solo career with the release of his 1999 EP Prélude à l'Odyssée. Taking inspiration from A Tribe Called Quest, as well as Miles Davis, he developed a unique style of hip-hop that brought new vision and sophistication to the genre with clever, urban poetics and a jazzy production aesthetic informed by soul. His second album paid respect to Detroit rap, particularly standout track “Dis moi ce qu'elles veulent”, featuring American rap group Slum Village in a sparse bilingual funk-fest.
