Miriam Yeung: All About Love

“I’m so grateful to my friends who have supported me and taught me,” Cantopop star and award-winning actor Miriam Yeung tells Apple Music. Her 2020 tour (which was postponed indefinitely) was named My Gratitude in honour of her 25th year as an artist and as a tribute to all who helped her achieve that milestone. “Life is about making progress and, along the way, failures,” she says. “We should be grateful to friends who lend a hand.” To celebrate the new year, Yeung has created a playlist inspired by “love and life’s difficulties”, she says. “However difficult it is, love is what it takes to solve it. Hope those songs will cheer you up and make you feel loved, and I wish everyone knew how to love and be loved.” The eclectic selections include Cantopop classics and new songs from emerging acts—an informed look into Cantopop’s past and present. “I’m a bit biased because I’m a diehard Danny Chan fan,” she says, of picking not one but three of the star’s tracks. “I’m still that girl. I really loved ‘Life Expectation’, and if you revisit it at different life stages, there’s a lot more to discover.” Meanwhile, Terence Lam and Jay Fung give refreshing perspectives on emotions and relationships. “[Lam] infuses his songs with a very personal style,” Yeung says. “You just feel he’s the only one who can deliver it. And I really enjoy Jay’s live performances, first because he’s very good at it, and because he’s singing with a big smile—that kind of happiness glowing from inside the heart.” Yeung plans to focus on living well in the new year, as evidenced by her collab with Supper Moment, “Now it's time to……”, a rock anthem about grasping the present. “To live well isn’t easy,” she says. “It takes huge effort and devotion. You need to have a positive mindset all the time. I hope everyone will like the song and wish everyone to live well and healthy.”
