Film and TV composer Kerim König brings together the worlds of acoustic and electronic in this subtle, multi-layered album. The warm harmonies are beautifully restrained, the musical forces are small and intimate. The expansive Quartessence plays out like a movie soundtrack, its pulsating electronic beats gradually giving way to a solitary violin, while the exquisitely scored, modal String Quintet emerges from distorted beginnings like a butterfly from a chrysalis. König’s most affecting track is In a Major Key—a beautiful homage to the emotional ambiguity of simple tonality.
