Throughout her long career, Prudence Liew has followed her muse with singular devotion. She broke out on the Cantopop scene with her 1986 self-titled debut, which, was a multiplatinum hit, boosted by her deft balladry and flirtations with European pop. She took a bolder turn in the '90s, moving from sweet pop to risqué themes. Liew has often retreated from the spotlight, only to stage dynamic comebacks while experimenting with traditional Chinese sounds, jazz, bossa nova and Mandopop.
