Nightmares On Wax's early bleep-techno releases helped set the futuristic tone of the UK's Warp label. But with 1999's Carboot Soul, he eased into the cosiest kind of nostalgia. Named in homage to secondhand-record dealers, his third album is a crate-digger's delight, full of head-nodding breakbeats, muted horns, drowsy Rhodes riffs and moody funk basslines. Strings and acoustic guitars carry echoes of British folk music, while Sarah Winton's hazy vocals lend whispered intimacy to the softly lit proceedings.
