Originally written by Jon Randall and Erik Dylan, “Ol’ Stray Dog” is told from the perspective of a long-weary road warrior, with a traditionally informed sound that suits the tune’s worse-for-the-wear vibe. Green tells Apple Music that Dylan first sent him the demo nearly a decade ago, and that he’s glad the emotional and relatable song will soon find an audience. “How do you not feel something when somebody’s singing a song about a dog?” Green says. “There’s something wrong with it if you don’t get a little bit emotionally attached to that.
