About KR$NA

KR$NA, aka Krishna Kaul, turned to rap in his early teens in London before a return to his birth country of India, where from 2006 he first released music under the monikers YoungProzpekt and Prozpekt. The rapper scored a breakout hit with the anti-corruption song “Kaisa Mera Desh” in 2010, when India’s hip-hop scene was far from mainstream. It came at a time when he was juggling his music making with a job in public relations for Universal Music Group. By the time he quit that job in 2013, the very same major label was set to release his debut album as KR$NA, Sellout. A reflection of India’s love for English-language hip-hop in the vein of Eminem, it set the stage for a turn towards Hindi rap with the single “Vyanjan” in 2016. As it went viral thanks to KR$NA’s verbose and playful approach, it opened doors for the rapper who had spent years in the Delhi and Mumbai hip-hop underground. Working more strategically, KR$NA secured featured spots alongside Royce da 5’9” (“Crossroads” by Hi-Rez) while also teaming up with seasoned Indian hip-hop stars like Raftaar (“Saza-E-Maut” from 2021’s Still Here), Brodha V (“Forever”) and Karan Aujla (“Ykwim” in 2022). An incendiary beef with Mumbai rapper Emiway Bantai birthed the scorcher “Machayenge 4”. And the artist has since cemented his rep as one of the greatest in the game for lyrical depth and innovation on songs such as “Khatta Flow” and “Hola Amigo” with Delhi rap duo Seedhe Maut, plus singles including “I Guess” and “No Cap”.
