Sampled: The "Amen" Break
Apple Music
In 1969, the soul group The Winstons dropped "Amen, Brother”. A furious drum break during the song's mid-section would later become a frequently sampled snatch of percussion. N.W.A., Mantronix and the Ultramagnetic MC's used it to power punchy hip-hop tracks, while in the '90s it entered the dance and drum 'n' bass scene through artists like Dillinja, Aphex Twin and The Prodigy.
