Carol Kaye laid down some of the greatest basslines in American pop-music history. That's her on The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, for example. In the '60s and '70s, she brought groove, passion and an inventive low end to R&B greats Lou Rawls and Ike & Tina Turner, culture changers like Love and Simon & Garfunkel and pop acts like Nancy Sinatra and The Monkees, among countless others.
