About Jean-Baptiste Quentin

Quentin was a fine violinist from France who was equally adept at playing the viola. His repute was substantial playing at the Opera from 1718 for a number of years and composing music for his instrument. Compositions scored by Quentin were numerous and included violin sonatas in four or five movements. He also composed a great number of trio sonatas with suggestions of performances with an orchestra. Technically the sonatas are demanding and require triple stops and quadruple stops with bowing marks indicated. Sonorous melodies are apparent in his works as is concerted and full harmonies. ~ Keith Johnson
