In his solo and movie soundtrack work, Vishal Mishra has consistently mastered the melodic, sorrowful love song. This craftsmanship is on full display on the composer-singer’s debut Hindi pop album, where loneliness and longing are fashioned into powerful piano-led ballads and pained guitar-driven anthems tailor-made for anyone who’s ever nursed a broken heart. Mishra is almost his own genre, but he throws in a few surprises—he teams up with Portuguese singer MARO for a delicate duet, rocks out on the Imagine Dragons-esque “Sitara” and lightens up for the upbeat “Muskurata Jaun”.
