Ilaiyaraaja’s music and Gulzar’s lyrics come together on the soundtrack for Balu Mahendra’s Sadma. A remake of Mahendra’s 1982 film Moondram Pirai, some of the themes and melodies are familiar, but new songs, including the romantic "Yeh Hava Yeh Fiza", were added to appeal to a Hindi-speaking audience. "Aye Zindagi Gale Lagaa Le", featuring playback singer Suresh Wadkar, uses acoustic guitar riffs, orchestral arrangements and classical Indian elements in a nod to the original film’s Tamil roots.
