It seems apt that one of Russia's most abrasive bands took their name from a heavily polluted industrial district in the city of Voronezh. Sektor Gaza's sound—the brainchild of singer/songwriter Yuri “Hoi” Klinskikh—treads a confrontational and often controversial path, blurring the boundaries between punk, metal, rap and folk. With a devil-may-care attitude and lyrics considered obscene by the Russian government, Klinskikh's group averaged more than an album a year for a decade, until his untimely death at 35 in 2000.
