One of Russia's true rock pioneers, Boris Grebenshikov, also known as BG, emerged on the scene wearing his Western rock ‘n' roll inspirations—Bob Dylan and The Beatles—on his sleeve, this at a time when Moscow's ruling classes didn't always approve of such leanings. Building up a significant underground following during the Cold War and communist eras, BG and his group Akvarium's spirited blend of folk, rock and jazz has lost none of its impact since then, while his poignantly honest lyrics still swing with the full force of the times they were written in.
