Born to two singers—a Filipino father and a Chinese mother—To can say that music runs deep in his genes. A commercial design major, at the age of 23 he was working as an art director when he entered the New Talent Singing Awards. He won, and since then there was no looking back. Four years later, in 1986, he released his first Cantonese album, which became an instant hit. The versatile To is one of the the first Mandopop artists to incorporate funk and soul into his music, but he also excels at romantic lyricism, making him one of the most well-rounded artists in the genre.
