With his immaculate delivery and bawdy wit, King Yellowman set the standard for all Jamaican DJs to come. Though somewhat tame in comparison to today's dancehall, his sexually forward songs were a point of controversy in the early '80s, and made him the first DJ accused of "slackness." His humour and charisma eclipse the elephant in the room, the albinism from which Yellowman's stage name derives. The rhythm on 1982's "Zungguzungguguzungguzeng" would be sampled on many future hits. Having survived cancer, Yellowman has lately steered his artistry in a more conscious direction.
