Though most Australians only had a few months of seeing live music before returning to lockdowns throughout 2021, it didn’t dampen our passion for discovering new music from around the world, or our own backyard. In Australia, Apple Music subscribers listened to a lot—like, a lot—of Kamilaroi singer-rapper The Kid LAROI, who stayed high on our charts thanks to “SO DONE”, “WITHOUT YOU” and, of course, his Justin Bieber collaboration “STAY”. Masked Wolf’s sleeper hit “Astronaut in the Ocean” was another local favourite, alongside tracks by Tones And I, Vance Joy and Amy Shark. Though we couldn’t travel, we still enjoyed plenty of music from across the globe, with artists like Glass Animals, Olivia Rodrigo and Lil Nas X ranking highly.
