With their slick musicianship and seamless fusion of global sounds, this American duo reached an audience far outside the electronic music underground. Early albums like 1997's Sounds from the Thievery Hi-Fi and 2000's The Mirror Conspiracy gelled perfectly with the emerging downtempo sound, combining trip-hop beats, reggae bass and bits of jazz. Despite their immediate success with the chill-out crowd, Thievery Corporation's music got darker and more psychedelic as the decade went on, winning them rock fans and collaborators like Wayne Coyne and David Byrne.
