Thandiswa Mazwai Essentials

Born to anti-apartheid activist parents, Thandiswa Mazwai first earned her stripes as member of the highly acclaimed Bongo Maffin–alongside Appleseed and Stoan–before launching a successful solo career in 2004. Often composing songs based on the writings of Chinua Achebe, Steve Biko and Frantz Fanon, her music has earned her multiple South African (SAMAs), Kora Africa, Channel O and Metro FM Music awards.
