Steve Winwood: Influences

Steve Winwood: Influences

From early on, Steve Winwood's uncanny ability to mimic Ray Charles laid bare the depths of his affinity for '60s R&B, jazz and gospel. His Booker T–style keyboard skills and wailing Junior Walker voice both come from playing soul for dancers in The Spencer Davis Group, and for his work in Traffic and Blind Faith he absorbed The Impressions' questing soul and Jimi Hendrix's heavy blues.
