While Chris Cornell's howl immediately brings to mind giants like Robert Plant and Ozzy Osbourne, his band found inspiration in more than just classic rock and metal. Like other pioneering Seattle bands they came of age with in the mid-to-late ‘80s, their sound—loud, heavy, melodic but uncompromising—was imbued with the fire of punk and the pathos of classic R&B and blues.
