Rob Halford Essentials

Heavy metal would be a much duller place without Rob Halford. Not only did the Judas Priest frontman sport a ferocious array of studded leather stage outfits, but he continues to boast a versatile vocal style encompassing gruff rebellion (“Breaking the Law”), Ozzy-like melodicism (“You’ve Got Another Thing Coming”) and operatic banshee howls (“Painkiller”). In a testament to his range, Halford spent the ’90s dabbling in hulking groove metal with the band Fight and industrial-leaning metal with the short-lived group 2wo before forming the heavy band Halford—and, in the early 2000s, returning to his rightful place as Judas Priest’s figurehead.
