Often pegged as a teen idol, Rick Nelson did much to popularise rock 'n' roll and later to bring rock and country together. His family's '50s TV show, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, often featured young Ricky with his band, which included future Elvis lead guitarist, James Burton. In 1969 he formed one of the first country-rock bands, the Stone Canyon Band. A bad time at a Madison Square Garden oldies show led to 1972's Garden Party and its hit title song. His career was cut short in 1985 when his private plane crashed, en route to a New Year's Eve show in Dallas.
