New Order: Influences

New Order: Influences

On a trip to New York following the recording of 1981's Movement, New Order discovered the electronic beats and funk underpinnings of Manhattan's underground dance scene. Branching out from Joy Division's post-punk roots, they drew upon the slinky grooves of downtown favourites like ESG and Liquid Liquid, plus Bronx hip-hoppers like Afrika Bambaataa, to fashion a vibrant, influential sound.
