Lush Essentials

Lush Essentials

At the midpoint between the swirling dream pop of Cocteau Twins—whose Robin Guthrie produced some of their early records—and the thunderous assault of early The Jesus and Mary Chain, Lush mixed noise and beauty into one of shoegaze's most appealing sounds. Led by singing guitarists Emma Anderson and Miki Berenyi, the group appeared on 4AD with a series of singles later collected on the '90 compilation Gala. Their proper debut, 1992's Spooky, built on that early success while follow-ups Split and Lovelife moved toward a more direct, poppier sound.
