As a co-founder of Alice In Chains, Jerry Cantrell was one of grunge’s major architects, writing not only smouldering jams (“Would?”) but also era-defining hits such as “Rooster”, a deeply moving song told from the perspective of his Vietnam War-serving dad. Cantrell has also stepped out on his own for solo work (“Cut You In”, a highlight, features horns from Fishbone’s Angelo Moore) and collaborations that allow his guitar playing to shine. He was integral to Ozzy Osbourne’s 2005 covers LP, Under Cover, and contributed a meditative, mournful guitar solo on Deftones’ 2016 song “Phantom Bride”.
