Frankie Paul Essentials

Frankie Paul's success proved that classic R&B vocals still had a place in reggae's dancehall era. Often compared to Stevie Wonder, Paul has a few things in common with the Motown star: Both were born blind (Paul's sight was partially restored), both are multi-instrumentalists, and both began making music at a young age. Paul's breakthrough single, 1983's “Worries in the Dance,” protested the increasing violence in the era's dancehall culture. Releasing dozens of tracks per year during the ‘80s, he proved equally adept at dancehall tracks with DJ's, and R&B-inspired lovers' rock.
