Diane Dufresne: Influences

In the early ‘70s, Diane Dufresne was a folk rocker taking cues from rootsy raconteurs like Neil Young. But she also looked up to visionary vocalists like Billy Paul, whose symphonic soul revamp of Elton John's “Your Song” showed her how to invest even the most intimate songs with the sort of gusto that would fuel her more extravagant later work. She continues to keep her ear to the ground, finding fresh inspiration in modern indie and hip-hop.
