Belinda Essentials

Spain-born and Mexico-raised child actress Belinda Peregrín Schüll made her musical debut at 14 with Belinda, a lucrative 2003 blast of brash power pop. She matured quickly, though, and subsequent albums (cowritten with Ignacio Peregrín, her brother) begin to drift away from her signature toolkit of fist-pumping rock, dance pop, and ballads. The alterna-pop defiance of Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne informs the darker, more ruminative dance pop grooves of 2006's Utopia, while dubstep productions and a Pitbull duet on 2010's Carpe Diem suggest changes to come.
