Alex Scott: Music That Moves Me

When former Arsenal and England defender Alex Scott first brought her music into the dressing room, she discovered a new way to connect with her teammates. “Music in the pre-match routine is absolutely everything, and what I loved was, it wasn’t just about the music I liked,” she tells Apple Music. “I would look around, try to get to know each player, what they liked, and play something to get them in the mood also.” Scott reached the pinnacle of her career across three stints with London giants Arsenal, and earned a staggering 140 caps for England—in addition to snagging the long-term honour of Lionesses disc jockey. Here, on Scott’s 24-track playlist, you’ll find uplifting hits through the ages, from Marvin Gaye to Miley Cyrus. “You might ask, ‘Why is that in the playlist?’” she says of the Tennessee singer’s 2009 single “The Climb” (from the soundtrack for Hannah Montana: The Movie). “It was our song of the 2009 tournament. Just before I would go out to play for England, we would be singing it at the top of our voices. There are other cheesy songs in there, like ‘Tragedy’ [by Steps], our song in 2015, when we won bronze at the World Cup.”
