Ingrid Laubrock Anti-House

German-born saxophonist Ingrid Laubrock was well established on the London creative and avant jazz scene when she moved to Brooklyn in 2008, but she took a bit of time before forming Anti-House, her first Brooklyn-based group as a leader. After her arrival in the New York City borough, Laubrock initially joined a collaborative trio, Paradoxical Frog, also featuring pianist Kris Davis and drummer Tyshawn Sorey, and improvised with drummer Tom Rainey and guitarist Mary Halvorson in the Tom Rainey Trio. Seeking to lead her own ensemble that would provide an outlet for her compositional as well as improvisational skills, Laubrock formed Anti-House with Rainey (also her husband), Halvorson, and bassist John Hébert; the quartet -- with Davis as guest -- recorded and released an eponymous debut album on the Swiss Intakt label in 2010. A sophomore Anti-House album, Strong Place, saw release (also on Intakt) in January 2013. Like the debut, Strong Place featured Laubrock compositions performed by the leader on tenor and soprano saxophones joined by Rainey, Halvorson, Hébert, and Davis, the latter now a full-fledged member of the group rather than guest artist. In June 2015 Ingrid Laubrock's Anti-House returned with their third Intakt album, Roulette of the Cradle, featuring clarinetist Oscar Noriega added to the lineup on two tracks. ~ Dave Lynch
