About Dolf van der Linden

b. David Gysberet van der Linden, 22 June 1915, Vlaardingen, Netherlands. As conductor of the famous Metropole Orchestra, Dolf van der Linden was one of Holland’s leading musicians in the post-war years, making distinctive recordings which sold throughout the world. Originally performing mainly for the domestic radio audience, van der Linden’s 52 musicians in the Metropole Orchestra soon gained a reputation as one of the finest in Europe. As guest conductor he worked with leading orchestras in Britain, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Belgium, France and Israel. During the Nord Ring Festival in 1977 he won the award as best conductor. Van der Linden combined his arranging skills with a considerable talent for composing, and his works were accepted by many London mood music libraries, whose specialized recordings are made for exclusive use by radio, television and film companies. He also conducted many of these recordings, using various pseudonyms, including: Paul Franklin, Nat Nyll and David Johnson. For his commercial recordings he was known variously as Van Lynn, Daniel de Carlo, Gerard Blene, Alex Pinto and Guy Brain. Confusingly a number of his own works were given different titles when published in various countries, but his best-known included: ‘Remembrance’, ‘Carnival Time’, ‘Table Talk’, ‘Man From Mars’, ‘Sagebrush’, ‘Utopia Road’, ‘Top Drawer’, ‘Grand Canyon’, ‘Terra Del Fuego’, ‘Park Lane Serenade’ (his theme music), ‘Jamaica Road’, ‘Factory Town’ and ‘Rhapsody For Piano And Orchestra’.
