About Chrissy Metz

An Emmy-nominated actress, Chrissy Metz made her major-label singing debut in the role of Kate on the hit NBC drama This Is Us. The character's cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" was nominated for an MTV Movie & TV Award for Best Musical Moment in 2018. Metz released her first single separate from the show, "Talking to God," in 2020. It introduced a vulnerable contemporary country partly conceived in Nashville. Born Christine Michelle Metz in Homestead, Florida, Metz spent part of her childhood in Japan before her family moved to Gainesville while she was still in elementary school. She began earning screen-acting credits in the mid-2000s while in her mid-twenties. Among guest spots on shows like Entourage and My Name Is Earl, Metz made her big-screen debut with a supporting role in 2007's Loveless in Los Angeles, starring Ray Donovan's Dash Mihok. She was a regular on American Horror Story: Freak Show (2014-2015) before winning the role of Kate Pearson on NBC's This Is Us, which had its series premiere in September 2016. The following year, Metz sang "Landslide" on-camera for an episode of the show, and it was included on the 2017 Universal release Music from the Series This Is Us. Meanwhile, Metz was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series as well as for the equivalent Golden Globe. In 2018, she and singer Matt Boyd recorded a cover of the Scott Alan tune "Anything Worth Holding On To," and Metz voiced Mei Mei on select episodes of the animated series Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny (2018-2019). She returned to singing in 2019 for "I'm Standing with You" from the film Breakthrough, in which she was also cast. The song was included on Breakthrough [Music from & Inspired by the Motion Picture], which featured appearances by gospel stars Kirk Franklin and Lecrae. That year, the cast of This Is Us won their second consecutive Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series. Signing with EMI Nashville, Metz made her debut as a country recording artist with "Talking to God" in April of 2020. The breakup song "Actress" followed that June. ~ Marcy Donelson
