At Home with Wolf Alice: The Playlist

Wolf Alice like to take their time with each new album. “We like to pick our best tunes and really create a body of work that has the right feeling and is a snapshot of time,” singer-songwriter Ellie Rowsell tells Apple Music. “I think we feel jealous of lots of pop and rap music. It's like, ‘Let's go into the studio, write a song and put it out.’ Where we're like, ‘Is this the best song we've ever written? We could definitely have more fun with it and not be so precious.’” Ahead of Blue Weekend, the London four-piece band’s third album and first since 2017’s Visions of a Life, Rowsell sat down with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe to talk about her desire to write film scores, her tendency to overthink the songwriting process with her bandmates and working with producer Markus Dravs. Rowsell also expressed great admiration for Danish post-punk band Iceage, who are represented here on this exclusive Apple Music playlist she curated herself—which also features the likes of BROCKHAMPTON, Andy Shauf, Lana Del Rey and Wayne Shorter. “I was obsessed with Plowing Into the Field of Love when it came out,” she says. “It has probably inspired me subconsciously, because I love the way they're punky and quite heavy, but they use piano, strings and trumpet too.”
