The Pastels Essentials

The Pastels Essentials

Members of the venerated C86 club, this Glasgow band has had a significant—though not widely recognised—influence on indie pop. Since rising out of Scotland in the ‘80s as part of Creation Records' early roster, The Pastels have gone through various lineup changes. A quick listen, however, reveals a band always in tune with its melodic pop instincts. Built on loose rhythms and jangling guitars, their songs evoke the arty, understated style of The Velvet Underground and those off-key vocals make their heart-on-sleeve confessions that much more endearing.
