ONE OK ROCK—with their thrashing take on post-hardcore—are the high-energy, scream-prone face of contemporary Japanese alternative rock. Formed in the mid '00s by a group of high school friends, the quartet found inspiration in bands such as Linkin Park and Good Charlotte, incorporating their signature chugging guitar melodies and dramatic shout-singing. ONE OK ROCK have come to be defined by the throat-tearing vocals of Takahiro Moriuchi, who hops between languages on both start-stop head-rushers (“Deeper Deeper”) and leisurely, uplifting ballads (“Be the light”).
