因為 DJ Todd Terry 的混音，而讓 Everything but the Girl 嚐到了揚名歐美樂壇的滋味。其後，Everything but the Girl 推出了以電音和舞曲為基調的專輯《Walking Wounded》，更打進了英國金榜第四位，取得成軍以來的最佳成績。樂隊起初主打另類搖滾和雅緻流行 (sophisti-pop)，並先後推出了《Baby, the Stars Shine Bright》、《Idlewild》、《Worldwide》等專輯，奈何迴響不大，直至 1994 年，專輯《Amplified Heart》裡的一首單曲才改變了他們的命運。
