Carlão: Influences

Carlão: Influences

Apple Music

Who helped Carlão make the leap from misfit to crooner? Scathing political punk rock like the Dead Kennedys, as well as take-no-prisoners rap, fuelled his earlier incarnation as DJ Pacman in Portuguese hip-hop crew Da Weasel. He also owes a debt to Cape Verde rapper Boss AC's fast, nimble verses, like "Baza Baza (Hoje Não Quero Saber)". And as a solo artist he integrated the sexy R&B strains of singers like D'Angelo ("Send It On").
