Béla Bartók: A perfect union of popular and classical music

Hungary's Béla Bartók was an experimental composer who was also a populist. He drew from the latest trends in classical orchestration while using a gramophone to record the popular songs of his native land. You can hear the earthy, complex mix in Bartók's Dance Suite and in the Hungarian Folk Dances, as well as in the composer's Mikrokosmos series, an expansive set of piano works.
