Antidote is home to the best new alternative music in the UK and beyond—a celebration of independence, innovation and artists who don’t just push boundaries but reduce them to rubble. CMAT’s powerful “EURO-COUNTRY” leads the playlist this week. It’s the title track to her forthcoming album, which is out on 29 August. “I knew the album was going to be called EURO-COUNTRY and then I thought, ‘I’d love a title track for this record,’” Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson—aka CMAT—tells Apple Music. “Usually, it’s the other way around.” CMAT namechecks mythical Irish warrior Cú Chulainn and Atomic Kitten’s Kerry Katona in the song. “I have a real fascination with beautiful blondes who are destroyed by the press,” she says. “I’ve written about Princess Diana and Anna Nicole Smith, and I think Kerry is another one of these women that was completely unfairly, I think, rinsed for the wrong reasons by the British press.” Also on this week’s playlist are new tracks from Royel Otis, Tame Impala and Lola Young.
