Taking their name from a truck, Diamond Rio ranks as the first country group to ever have its first single become a Number One hit. Formed in Nashville in 1984, they were signed to Arista five years later and scored immediately with “Meet in the Middle.” Their trademark sound combined bluegrass-inspired harmony with country-rock arrangements, and their lyrics usually put forth a positive message. The band's connection to Christian music got stronger with a Christmas album in 2007 and a gospel-rooted album, The Reason, in 2009.
