United Strings of Europe

About United Strings of Europe

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. We create musical experiences that celebrate diversity and bridge cultural divides. Praised for our ‘virtuosically expressive’ playing (The Times), we commission and arrange music, presenting original programming in Europe and the Middle East. Find a song of yours on Apple Music that you love and tell us what makes it special. Tell us why you chose this song. “And the Swallow (Arr. J. Azkoul for String Orchestra)” This track shows how we adapt music written for other instruments (or voices) to strings. The topic about finding/providing a home and accepting others, resonates with us. The album 'Renewal' highlights our approach to blending old and the new music. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Our recordings include 'Renewal' with Ruby Hughes ('a cracking disc' - Gramophone) and 'Tchaikovsky' (BBC Music Magazine's Orchestral Choice). Our film 'send back the echo' exploring deafness was selected for the London Short Film Festival 2021. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? Upcoming projects include a programme of 20th and 21st-century works about nature by women composers, a new commission from composer Joanna Marsh, a collaboration with soprano Héloïse Werner, and debuts at major venues such as the Wigmore Hall.
