About Hubert Sumlin
Hubert Sumlin was renowned for his guitar work, particularly in support of his mentor Howlin’ Wolf. Sumlin began his career in the Mississippi juke-joints, and first met Wolf when he was 19 in Memphis, following him to Chicago in 1954. Sumlin was devastated when Wolf died in 1976 and stopped working for a number of months. He was encouraged to start performing again, often working with alumni of Wolf’s band. After a number of fine recordings for labels such as Blind Pig, Black Top, and Telarc, Sumlin returned to the studio in 2000 with Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Levon Helm. Contractual problems meant that the resultant set, ABOUT THEM SHOES, remained unreleased until 2005.
