About Big Flame
Bassist/vocalist Alan Brown and drummer David Green of Big Flame got their unlikely start as a backing band for Wham!, but soon realized that their penchant for off-kilter rhythms and tense cacophony was incongruent with Wham!’s more commercial approach. Adding guitarist Greg O’Keefe, Big Flame began performing and recording their manic, minimalist, and often atonal music in 1983. A series of 7” singles won favor with post-punk enthusiasts and with the UK music press before the group broke up in 1986. In 1996 Drag City Records released RIGOUR, a compilation of the entirety of Big Flame’s recorded output.
