Dogrel

Dogrel

“My childhood was small,” howls FONTAINES D.C. frontman Grian Chatten on Dogrel’s opening track. “But I’m going to be big!” It serves notice of his band’s two chief concerns on an intense, triumphant debut album: their Dublin heritage and stately ambitions. Theirs is a taut and belligerent racket, with Chatten’s raw and scintillating state-of-Dublin addresses providing the heart. “Too Real” might be the snarling, defiant centre-piece, but Dogrel keeps up the ferocious energy—and quality—until gloriously seen off home with “Dublin City Sky” and its lock-in charm.
