It’s not often that DJ Harvey releases recorded sets, so we’re honoured that the legendary British DJ has crafted this edition of Early Hours, the mix series where we ask DJs and producers to capture what those undefinable ‘early hours’ mean to them. “Very basically,” DJ Harvey tells Apple Music of what you can expect from his instalment, “this is classy listening, modern dance music. I wanted to support modern producers, some who are friends, rather than a revival sound. There’s always lots of wonderful new music to discover and share, and I love to dig for it.” Here, then, DJ Harvey’s turned up cuts from Lexx, Carrot Green, PRISM and the late DJ, producer and composer Susumu Yokota, Soul of Hex and more. And for a cult figure known for his pristine, marathon sets, the challenge here was keeping this mix to just one hour. “I’m a fan of all the tracks on here,” he says. “The toughest part for me was narrowing it down. Each was chosen to complement one another. It’s the first time I’ve put a mix out into the world for many years, other than for charitable causes, so thanks for having me.”
