About Chelsea Wolfe

Chelsea Wolfe’s music exists on the shadowy margins where gothic folk, grinding metal and harsh electronic music collide to exude a sense of creeping doom. Born in California in 1983, Wolfe started writing poetry and songs as a child and found her songwriting groove in 2010 on the stripped-back The Grime and the Glow. She released a tribute to political punks Rudimentary Peni and an acoustic album before full-lengths such as 2013’s Pain Is Beauty—featuring “Feral Love”, later used in a Game of Thrones trailer—and 2015’s Abyss raised her profile considerably. In addition to releasing solo albums, Wolfe has issued searing collaborations with post-rockers Russian Circles and metal band Myrkur. She also lent siren-like vocal wails to Converge’s 2021 gothic-tinged album Bloodmoon: I and teamed up with composer Tyler Bates to create an unsettled score for the 2022 horror movie X.
