King Kong

On his third album, Ugandan rapper Fik Fameica (born Walukagga Shafik) stakes a bullish claim for recognition as a force within and beyond East Africa. The outcome is a combination of several genres, including trap and dancehall, rendered in English and Swahili across the project’s 14 tracks. On “One Love”, the philosophy of “Wish me well, I wish you well/Treat me well, I treat you well” sets the tone for what is both a recognition of the mesmerising power of love and a display of ultimate braggadocio—an idea fully fleshed out on “Baddaer Dan”.
